Read ‘Avoiding ethical pitfalls with electronic documents’ co-authored with Bryan Sims

Jul 19, 2010

The State Bar of Wisconsin has published a two part article I co-authored with  Bryan Sims of The Connected Lawyer in the July editions of its InsideTrack e-newsletter. Titled  'Avoiding ethical pitfalls with electronic documents' , part 1 is on Metadata and part 2 is on Redaction. You will find links to parts 1 & 2  here.

Both Bryan and I speak frequently on these topics and decided to try and reach an larger audience since incidents involving accidental release of information from failing to properly remove harmful metadata or improperly redacting electronic documents continue. Falling victim to ether of these issues can result in inadvertent disclosure of confidential or privileged information and potential malpractice claims.  So if you're not sure what metadata is or how improperly using electronic redaction tools can cause you and your clients a great deal of grief, check it out.
